Bello Turns Heroine As Confluence Queens Zooms To Fed Cup Quarters
Published: July 09, 2015
Confluence Queens dumped Ibom Angels out of the Federation Cup, booking
their place in the quarterfinals with a 4-3 win on penalties in their
last 16 clash at the Neros Stadium on Wednesday.
Both sides failed to break the deadlock at the end of regulation time.
The Wada Queens had the upper hand to score after goalkeeper Gift Andy was given the marching orders after she was adjudged to have brought down a goal bound Lola Philips in the 61st minute.
A penalty kick was awarded to Confluence Queens, but Mariam Aluko saw her effort hit the upright.
It took the alertness of the Victoria Aidelomon captained back-four and series of misses from Confluence Queens to take the game to penalty shootouts.
Goalkeeper Bello Oluwaseun was the heroine as she saved two spot-kicks in the shootouts.
“We had a very good game today (Wednesday), even though we failed to convert our chances. The regulation time result was not a true reflection of our performance,” chief coach of Confluence Queens Adamu Suleiman aka “Zico” was quoted by club’ s spokesperson Ojo Tosin.
“I’m proud with the response of my players because we had a bad game last weekend against Osun Babes in Lokoja,” he continued.
“We are all aware of our target in this competition, and we must continue to work even harder to meet up with our objective.
“I am aware a lot need to be corrected after Wednesday’ s game, especially, our finishing,” Zico admitted.
