Official: 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup star Amoo terminates his contract with Omonia Nicosia
Published: March 03, 2024Through official channels, Omonia Nicosia have announced that 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup star Akinkunmi Amoo is leaving the Cypriot First Division club.
The winger and Omonia Nicosia have mutually agreed to terminate his contract early due to personal reasons.
Amoo was brought to Omonia Nicosia by the club's former sporting director, Jesper Jansson, who was relieved of his appointment last month, and the original agreement between club and player would have kept the Nigerian at the 21-time league champions until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
The 2022 Super Eagles invitee appeared in six matches for the Greens, logging 132 minutes.
He joined Omonia Nicosia from FC Copenhagen in September 2023 following a successful trial.
The Sidos FC product arrived at Omonia Nicosia at zero cost with the Danish Superliga giants inserting a sell-on clause into the deal.
During his time at FC Copenhagen, he could only manage four appearances in all competitions due to injuries and off-the-field issues.
Amoo began his career in Europe with Swedish side Hammarby IF where he made his mark, scoring 13 goals in 48 all-competition appearances.
