Versatile Rotherham United midfielder Odoffin commits international future to Nigeria over England
Published: April 22, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Rotherham United star Hakeem Odoffin has made himself available for Super Eagles selection after committing his international future to the three-time African champions.
Born in Barnet, Odoffin qualifies to represent England's Three Lions but he's certainly not on the radar of manager Gareth Southgate, given that he currently plays in the second tier of English football.
Despite Rotherham United's woes on the pitch this season, his reputation is still intact as he has been arguably their standout player, scoring four goals in thirty-eight appearances across all competitions.
The 26-year-old offers versatility as he can play as a centre-back, defensive midfielder or box-to-box midfielder.
He played against Super Eagles stars Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey and Leon Balogun during his time in Scotland with
Hamilton Academical, and faced Semi Ajayi and Josh Maja in the Championship this term.
Odoffin wants to play for the Super Eagles because he feels more connected to Nigeria than England, having schooled in Nigeria in his pre-teen years before returning to England.
He started his career with the youth team of Tottenham Hotspur, before spells at Barnet, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Northampton Town, Livingston and Hamilton Academical, from where he joined Rotherham United in the summer of 2021.
Odoffin has a contract with Rotherham United until June 30, 2024, with the Millers holding a club option for the 2024-2025 campaign.
