Don Hutchison believes Liverpool should consider signing Osimhen and two other Serie A players
Published: April 28, 2024Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has urged his former club to consider signing Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen and two other Serie A players in the summer.
The Reds started the season brilliantly and were in the running for an historical quadruple after winning the Carabao Cup until recent weeks when everything fell apart for the club.
They lost in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup to Manchester United, got knocked out by Ademola Lookman's Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League and have fallen behind in the Premier League title race.
One of the reasons for Jurgen Klopp's men's poor run of form has been as a result of their profligacy in front of goal, failing to score in three of their last six games across all competitions and particularly with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez also misfiring.
This has led to a call for injection of more quality in attack which is now being supported by Hutchison who feels the Premier League giants will benefit from the signing of Osimhen and two other Serie A stars Rafael Leao and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
In quotes relayed by Walk On, the former Scotland international said: "I think Liverpool have got a conundrum. Do they see him (Darwin Nunez) as a number 9 or do they need him as someone who is going to be brilliant off the left-hand side?
"I think at some point, depending on how much Liverpool have got in the summer to spend, there are players out there that can improve Liverpool.
"Rafa Leao at Milan is an unbelievable player, Kvaratskhelia at Napoli is the same, Osimhen I have always loved, so there are players out there. But that's a lot of money. So it depends on how Liverpool actually see it and how they view the player."
Recently, another former Liverpool player Steve Nicol also urged the Merseyside-based side to consider signing the Napoli star besides Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland.
The 25-year-old is set to leave Napoli this summer and the Reds are not one of the main contenders for his signature but with Arne Slot on the verge of becoming the new manager of the club, things could change quickly.
