Official: Versatile midfielder Lawal returns to parent club Celtic after loan spell at EFL club
Published: May 02, 2024English Football League club Fleetwood Town have announced their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season.
After a decade in League One, Fleetwood Town have been relegated to the fourth tier of English football after finishing 22nd in the third tier.
Among the six players returning to their parent clubs is Republic of Ireland U21 international of Nigerian descent Bosun Lawal.
The versatile midfielder was loaned out to the Fishermen last August to get a taste of first team football.
Although Lawal has impressed for Celtic B since transferring from Watford, he has not broken into the first team of the Hoops
He emerged as a key player at Fleetwood, starting 40 out of a possible 46 games in the League One, and also made his debuts in the FA Cup and Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
The 20-year-old netted six goals in the league while producing two assists and was in action for a total of 3,544 minutes.
The talented youngster made his first team debut for Celtic in a Scottish Cup clash against Greenock Morton in January 2023., coming off the bench for the final three minutes as a replacement for Carl Starfelt.
He has received three call-ups for Premiership matches but was a non-playing substitute in those games.
Lawal joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 after rejecting a professional contract at Watford, where he was named the Academy Player of the Year in his final season at Vicarage Road.
Meanwhile, Dublin-born Nigerian forward Promise Omochere is under contract for the 2024-2025 season and is among the players retained by Fleetwood Town.
