Nigerian exports: Akpom, Boniface, Madueke strike; Adewoye, Oluwaseyi goals help RKC, MNUFC set club records
Published: May 05, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com's review of the Nigerian players that found the net for their respective foreign clubs in league matches on Sunday, May 5.
Starting in Germany, Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen took their unbeaten run to 48 matches in a row after thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 at the Commerzbank Arena.
Victor Boniface wrapped up the scoring a minute before the end of the game when he converted a penalty in the 89th minute, taking his tally to 19 goals in 31 appearances this season.
Thanks to Boniface's late goal, Bayer Leverkusen have now scored 82 goals in the German top flight this term, which sees them equal the club record set during the 2021-2022 season.
Across the border in the Netherlands, Shawn Adewoye opened his account for the season as RKC Waalwijk registered an impressive 5-0 road win against Heracles Almelo in a Dutch Eredivisie clash at Erve Asito.
From a corner, Adewoye, a former Belgium U19 international, headed home to make it 4-0.
Today's rout of Heracles Almelo was RKC Waalwijk's biggest-ever away win in the Eredivisie.
Elsewhere in the Netherlands, former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom played an important role with a goal and assist as Ajax Amsterdam thrashed FC Volendam 4-1 at Kras Stadion.
The number 10 teed up Kenneth Taylor for the opening goal of the contest and turned from provider to scorer in the 59th minute when he pounced on a rebound to double Ajax's advantage.
Akpom has 15g/2a in 34 appearances in all competitions for Ajax Amsterdam following his move from Middlesbrough last August.
For the second time in three Premier League matches, England U21 international Noni Madueke scored and assisted for Chelsea, helping the Blues to a 5-0 rout of West Ham United in a London derby at Stamford Bridge.
In the 36th minute, Madueke scored a rare headed goal to make it 3-0, before setting up Chelsea's fourth goal netted by Ivorian,
Nicolas Jackson.
Over to Major League Soccer, Abuja-born center forward Tani Oluwaseyi is a man in form, scoring for the third straight game to help Minnesota United earn their third win in a row.
Oluwaseyi doubled Minnesota United's lead with a low shot into the bottom right corner in the 60th minute.
With 20 points accumulated after their opening ten league games, this is Minnesota United's best-ever start to an MLS season.
