Sunshine Stars And Lobi Stars Play Out Draw
Published: July 06, 2015
Nigeria Professional Football League leaders, Sunshine Stars lost the chance to pull away from their rivals following a 1-1 draw with Lobi Stars at the Apa Aku Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The away side had taken the lead through Tunde Adeniji, but Lobi Stars levelled through substitute Obioma Arinze.
It was the 4th draw of the season for the Akure Gunners, but they are still on top of the ladder with 30 points, though they lead second-placed Enyimba as a result a better goal difference.
Both sides found their rhythm relatively quickly, but a lack of incision in the final third meant clear scoring chances were hard to come by in the first half.
Adeniji punished some slack defending and broke the deadlock four minutes after the hour mark.
Six minutes later, the hosts were back on level terms. Anthony Okpotu combined with Arinze and the former Nembe City man scored from close range.
Despite the late spell of pressure mounted by the Pride of Benue, the Akure Gunners held on for a 1-1 draw.
