Exclusive : Sunderland Trialist Chinedu Obasi Awarded German Citizenship In March & Will Beat Red Tape
Published: October 24, 2015
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Chinedu Obasi is in the possession of a German passport and will therefore escape the strict work permit requirements needed to play in the English Premier League.
Sunderland manager is expected to make a decision whether or not to offer the Nigeria international a contract next week should he prove he is in tip - top condition.
But first things first, Chinedu Obasi was awarded German citizenship in March 2015, having successfully applied for the document after spending eight years in the country.
This website can reveal that the former Schalke 04 frontman had been offered to a few clubs in the Premier League during the January transfer window but was not receptive as he was aware he did not meet the new criteria for a work permit as at that time.
In the last few years, Chinedu Obasi had limited game time after suffering a relapse of the injury he picked up while defending the colours of the national team at the 2010 World Cup.
