Frank Lampard : Chelsea Goofed Up On Tammy Abraham Loan To Swansea City
Published: October 20, 2017
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard says the Premier League champions made an error in loaning out Tammy Abraham to Swansea City as he would have acted as back-up to the club record signing Alvaro Morata.
Swansea manager Paul Clement has confirmed there is a break clause inserted into Abraham's loan deal, stipulating that the Nigerian striker must make a minimum number of appearances or he'll return to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens in less than three months time.
''For Chelsea as a club, yes it is a mistake,’ Lampard told BT Sport, according to Metro.
‘It’s not for Tammy as I don’t think he would have played so many games. Now you see him playing regularly and he is improving as a player.
''Chelsea could say 'we didn’t feel Tammy was going to play', if you say Morata was fit all season then it is great experience for him and he comes back next season as a well-rounded player.
''But now Morata is injured it seems a mistake. You can’t have it both ways. I know I’ve sat on the fence there but you improve the individual by sending him on loan, but as a club now you go ‘maybe we could have kept him''.
Abraham has recorded ten appearances for the Swans in all competitions, scoring five goals.
