Arsenal Loanee Akpom Almost Scores Goal Of The Season Contender
Published: February 12, 2018
Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom almost scored a goal of the season contender in Sint-Truiden's 3-0 loss to KAA Gent in the Belgian First Division A on Saturday.
The Arsenal loanee would have equalized for the visitors four minutes before half-time if not for a brilliant save by Gent goalkeeper Yannick Thoelen.
A loose ball fell to Akpom on the edge of the penalty area, the striker used his strength and skill to evade two defenders before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot which was tipped into the woodwork by the goalkeeper.
In his post match comments, Akpom hailed the Gent goalkeeper for the brilliant save : ''I reached full with my left foot.
''It was a good save from the goalkeeper, my compliments for him. Afterwards, Igor was still very close to a goal.''
Akpom wore the Sint-Truiden shirt for the second time against Gent since he completed his loan move from Arsenal in the winter transfer market.
The Hale End Academy product will play with the number 32 jersey for the remainder of the season.
