Nmecha Left Out Of Man City Squad To Face Basel (But A Nigerian Teenager Could Feature)
Published: February 12, 2018
Nigerian striker Lukas Nmecha will not make his Champions League bow when Manchester City tackle FC Basel in a Round of 16 clash on Tuesday evening.
Recently promoted to the first team by manager Pep Guardiola and registered for the knockout rounds, the highly-rated teenager was not in Manchester City's traveling party to Switzerland on Monday.
Central defender Tosin Adarabioyo was also not part of the 20 players that traveled to Basel.
Nmecha has already made Manchester City's match day squads three times this season, including Saturday's Premier League tie with Leicester City.
According to the official website of UEFA, the 17-year-old Noah Okafor is eligible to be fielded against the English opponents and took part in full training ahead of the match at St. Jakob-Park (Basel).
It remains to be seen if manager Raphael Wicky will hand the attacking midfielder his professional debut against Manchester City after omitting him from the squad that faced FC Thun this past weekend.
