Why Liverpool Loanee Ovie Ejaria is Absent From Sunderland's Match Day Squad Former Golden Eaglets trainee Ovie Ejaria was absent from Sunderland's match day squad against Brentford at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

It has come to light that the central midfielder picked up a knock in training which has ruled him out of today's contest.

Black Cats manager Chris Coleman has named the talented striker Joel Asoro in his starting line-up, while Nigeria Football Federation target Josh Maja is also in the 18 but starts on the bench.

Since completing his loan move from Liverpool in the hours leading up to the close of the winter transfer market, Ejaria has started games against Ipswich Town and Bristol City.

The Reds agreed to send him on loan for the remainder of this campaign due to his lack of opportunities with their first team this season.

The England U20 World Cup-winning midfielder made eight appearances for Liverpool's first team over the course of the 2016-2017 season.

Ejaria has been shortlisted for Liverpool's Goal of the Month prize twice in the last three months.
