Everton Loanee Henry Debuts For Galatasaray In Friendly Vs PSV Eindhoven
Published: July 18, 2018
Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru made his maiden appearance for Galatasaray in a pre-season friendly against Dutch club PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.
Onyekuru was loaned out by his parent club Everton who had sent him on a season long loan to Belgian giants Anderlecht in the 2017/2018 season where he copped an injury in December of last year.
Galatasaray were defeated 3-1 by PSV and Onyekuru was in action for twenty four minutes in his debut game.
Steven Bergwijn scored PSV's goal in the 41st minute with a cracking effort from outside the penalty area.
The Dutch youngster also hit the upright with a shot early in the second half as he continued to show great potential but it was teammate Donyell Malen who doubled PSV's lead with a tap in after a splendid build up in the 58th minute.
Swedish forward Martin Linnes got Galatasaray's goal in the 65th minute with a lovely chipped effort to beat an onrushing PSV keeper.
Moments after that goal, Onyekuru, handed jersey number 21 and with a gold colour vertically decorating his hair, came off the bench.
In the 74th minute, Onyekuru chased the ball from a good cross and found a teammate as he outwitted two markers, but gave away the ball with his second touch of the ball soon afterwards.
Cody Gakpo restored PSV's two goal cushion with a powerful shot, the ball nestling at the top right corner.
Onyekuru often drifted to the left side of attack and ran into spaces. He was dispossessed of the ball as he made to unleash a shot in the 90th minute.
The game ended 3-1 in favour of the Dutch side against 'The Lions' and an excited fan met up with the Nigerian for a photograph which he obliged.
