Tottenham Hotspur's Nigerian Defender 16-Word Reaction After Premier League Debut
Published: August 13, 2018Nigerian defender Luke Amos has spoken of his happiness after making his maiden competitive appearance in a Tottenham Hotspur jersey in their 2-1 win at Newcastle United on the opening day of the Premier League.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino handed a debut to one of the stars of the U23 team when he introduced the central midfielder in the 88th minute as replacement for a struggling Eric Dier.
The Argentinian coach had Amos in mind after his imperious displays for the first team during their pre-season trip to the United States, where he starred in games against Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan.
Writing on Instagram, Luke Amos stated : ''Good win and pleased to make my premier league debut. Thank you everyone for your messagesšš''.
Amos was the second ex-England U18 international of Nigerian descent on parade for Spurs at St. James' Park, the other being Dele Alli whose 18th minute goal ended up being the match winner.
Central defender Timothy Eyoma was not selected for the trip to Newcastle, though he featured in the first team's last two pre-season games against Milan and Girona.
