Ex-Nigeria U23 Star Okechukwu Reacts To Pyramids Exit Rumors & Real Reason He Has Yet To Debut
Published: September 27, 2018Former Nigeria U23 skipper Azubuike Okechukwu has provided an update on his future with Pyramids FC amid reports linking him with an imminent departure from the Egyptian Premier League side.
Since joining the capital outfit from Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor last month, the defensive midfielder has yet to make his debut only because of an injury but he is nearing a return to full fitness.
Pyramids Football Club owner Turki Al-Sheikh has decided to stop investing in Egypt but the Saudi Arabian has said that all the prominent players will be provided with professional contracts outside Egypt while the club will continue to be a going concern under a new management.
''I am not leaving Pyramids, it is not true there is no money to fund the team and I am about to be offloaded, '' said Okechukwu to allnigeriasoccer.com.
''I have an injury, I suffered the injury during pre-season with Yeni Malatyaspor. That's why I have not yet made my debut. I suffered an adductor tear, hopefully next week I will be back.''
Azubuike, who was a key member of the Dream Team VI squad at the 2016 Olympic Games, penned a three-year deal with Pyramids in August but it is understood that he does not intend to see out his contract.
