Arsenal 3 Burnley 1 : Iwobi Ends Four-Month Goal Drought; 17-Year Old Nigerian Named In 18
Published: December 22, 2018Arsenal returned to winning ways by beating Burnley 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium in London on Saturday afternoon, their first win in three games across all competitions following losses to Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
As for team news, wingers Bukayo Saka and Alex Iwobi were named in the match day squad but only made the bench.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Arsenal a perfect start when he slammed home a fine pass from the lively Sead Kolasinac in the 14th minute.
Two minutes after the restart, the Gunners doubled their lead as Aubameyang finished from close range after a pass from Lacazette but Ashley Barnes showed Burnley's interest in the game when he smashed the ball home from a few yards out following a goalmouth scramble.
Alex Iwobi has improved on his performances last season but his goal count has been poor, with only one in 21 appearances prior to today's game against the Clarets.
The Nigeria international came off the bench in the 78th minute and made it 3-1 in the first minute of stoppage time, slamming the ball home after Mesut Ozil saw his shot blocked.
Following their eleventh win of the season, Unai Emery's side are joint fourth in the standings with 37 points from 18 matches.
