Onuachu On Nigeria's Fastest Ever Goal : Many People Think I Score Only Headers
Published: March 28, 2019FC Midtjylland's Paul Onuachu was delighted to score Nigeria's fastest goal in history in a 1-0 win against Egypt in an international friendly staged at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The FC Ebedei product opened the scoring when he rifled home a
screamer from the edge of the box, off an assist from Hapoel Beer Sheva's John Ogu, and the goal has been timed at ten seconds.
Onuachu is not resting on his laurels and hopes to be part of the Super Eagles squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
''I'm happy to score my first goal for Nigeria in such a wonderful way,'' said Onuachu to Tipsbladet.
''Many people think "Okay, Paul scores a lot with his head" and expect me to score headers but I'm also strong with my feet.
''When I received the ball, I just thought "Paul - shoot with foot," so I did, and it was on target, which I am excited about - that was a good goal.
''It means a lot to me to score, which also gives confidence. So now I just have to keep working hard.''
According to Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr, Onuachu is among the four strikers in contention to be included on the AFCON roster, the others being Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Osimhen.
