'I Couldn't See The Ball After Aina's Jump' - Roma's Dzeko Recollects Stunning Strike Vs Torino
Published: March 17, 2020Roma captain Edin Dzeko has recollected his stunning strike against Ola Aina's Torino on the opening day of the 2018-2019 season.
In an interview with The Athletic, the prolific Bosnia and Herzegovina international striker picked his last-minute winner against Torino as one of the best goals he has scored in his career.
After hitting the woodwork twice earlier in the game, Dzeko struck a brilliant left-footed volley past goalkeeper Sirigu following a pinpoint cross from Justin Kluivert.
"Actually, I couldn't see the ball after Ola Aina's jump. In the interview after the game, they asked me if I thought about stopping the ball. I replied that I hadn't done it for even a second,'' Dzeko who is celebrating his 34th birthday today said.
"First, I thought of the Torino players. I was hoping Aina wasn't able to catch the ball because it was difficult.
"I wanted to put it on the second post, it was the first thing that came to mind. And it came out well"
Aina started the game vs Roma on the substitutes bench before replacing the injured Lorenzo De Silvestri in the 27th minute for his debut in the Italian Serie A.
