Barcelona Want To Sign New Yaya Toure : Leicester's Ndidi Among Five Midfielders Being Considered
Published: March 22, 2020La Liga champions Barcelona have started preparing for the reopening of the transfer window and have on their wishlist a defensive midfielder in the mould of their former player, Yaya Toure, according to reports.
Reliable Spanish sports daily Diario AS has unveiled a five-man shortlist of the defensive midfielders being considered by Barcelona as a possible summer reinforcement with Nigeria national-teamer Wilfred Ndidi making the cut.
The four remaining players being targeted are among the most coveted players in European football at the moment.
Benfica's Florentino, Lille's Boubakary Soumaré, Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga and Chelsea's French World Cup winner N'Golo Kante are all linked with a move to the Camp Nou.
Apart from his defensive qualities, Toure became renowned for his offensive attributes when he moved to Manchester City, which is highlighted by the 129 goals (79 goals, 50 assists) he was involved in during his eight-year stint in England.
Of the five defensive midfielders reportedly on the radar of Barcelona, Ndidi has scored the most career goals (15 in total) over the course of the last five seasons, ahead of Kante who has 12 goals to his name.
The 23-year-old Ndidi has contractual obligations with Leicester City until the end of the 2023-2024 season.
