Kanu, Ikpeba, Adepoju Pay Tribute To Diego Maradona After Death Of Argentina, Barcelona Icon
Retired Nigeria internationals Nwankwo Kanu, Mutiu Adepoju and Victor Ikpeba have paid tribute to arguably the greatest football of all time, Diego Maradona who passed away at the age of 60 at his home in Tigre on Wednesday, November 25.

The death of the Argentina, Barcelona, Boca Juniors and Napoli legend left the football world shocked and tributes have been flooding in for the number 10.

Maradona passed away this morning following cardio-respiratory arrest and the ambulances that went to his home could do nothing to save him.

For several years he suffered from serious health problems, and earlier this month he had emergency brain surgery, staying in hospital for over a week before he was discharged.

Maradona was in the Argentina squad that beat the Super Eagles 2-1 at the 1994 World Cup, setting up the second goal scored by Claudio Caniggia, and was in the dugout when the two-time world champions defeated Nigeria in South Africa 2010.

He helped Argentina win the 1986 World Cup before captaining the team in the 1990 tournament where they narrowly lost to Germany in the showpiece.

Kanu, Adepoju and Ikpeba took to Twitter to pay tribute to Maradona.

The former Arsenal striker said : "R.I.P Diego Armando Maradona .your memory will live on forever. #maradona #GOAT #football #argentina #legend @fifaworldcup #worldcup #best #memories".

Former African Footballer of the Year Ikpeba tweeted : "Repose en Paix Maradona".

Adepoju who faced Maradona in USA 94 said : "Legends don't die. They only take a rest #RipMaradona".

Maradona is survived by his partner, Veronica Ojeda, two daughters, two sons, and his former wife, Claudia Villafane.
