Super Eagles Defender Omeruo Still On The Mend, Omitted From Leganes Matchday Squad
Published: November 29, 2020Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo will play no part for CD Leganes when they take on Ponferradina in a Spanish Segunda Division clash at Estadio El Toralín on Sunday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Manager José Luis Martí confirmed at the pre-match press conference that the former Chelsea star is one of three players not included in the traveling party to the El Bierzo region, the others being Avilés and Santos.
Omeruo suffered an injury three minutes into the second half as CD
Leganes grinded out a 1-0 win against Mirandes on November 1.
And his rehabilitation has not gone according to plan as the projected time frame put on his recovery was two weeks.
Without their important Nigerian defender, Leganes have not done badly, winning three and drawing one match while conceding only one goal, and have moved to second position in the standings.
Omeruo withdrew from the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double header with Sierra Leone due to the ailment.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner has appeared in seven league matches for Leganes this term, logging 588 minutes and was yellow carded twice.
