Solskjaer reveals why Nigeria-eligible winger was not named in Man Utd squad to face AC Milan
Published: March 17, 2021Nigeria-eligible winger Shola Shoretire will certainly not make his third appearance for Manchester United's first team when they take on AC Milan in a Europa League round of 16 second leg clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Thursday night.
Fresh from winning the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for February, Shoretire has not been included in a 21-man traveling party to Milan.
The 17-year-old and two other players who were named in the matchday squad for the first leg, Nathan Bishop and Eric Bailly have stayed back in the United Kingdom.
The Anglo-Nigerian was snapped training with the first team at Aon Training Complex on Tuesday.
Explaining why Shoretire was not named in the traveling squad to face Milan, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters at the pre-match press conference : "Shola [Shoretire] will be playing for the Under-23s [on Friday at Tottenham], so we felt it was right for him."
Shoretire made his professional debut against Newcastle United on February 21 and four days later became the youngest player in history to represent the Red Devils in European competition when he came off the bench to replace Mason Greenwood in the 76th minute of the goalless draw versus Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.
