Four observations from Super Eagles' 1-0 loss to Indomitable Lions in Austria
Published: June 04, 2021
The Super Eagles were defeated 1-0 by Cameroon in the 'first half' of both teams' international friendlies this June with the second fixture coming up on Tuesday.
Allnigeriasoccer.com's Izuchukwu Okosi presents his observations from the Nigeria versus Cameroon game.
1. Bright Start By the Eagles, Stronger Finish By The Lions
Nigeria and not Cameroon seemed to be the likely winners of the friendly on Friday as they created more goal scoring chances than their opponents early in the match but they were not converted.
Gernot Rohr's side will need to put away the chances they create. They tried to redeem themselves towards the end of the game but the Lions were already in control of possession.
2. Rohr Not Starting New Boys
Fans of the Super Eagles already know what the first team regulars can offer but they are yet to see the new young players in the team.
That was the hope of every Nigerian fan but the Eagles handler went for the 'usual suspects' but the players only made their way into the pitch in the second half of the game.
Gernot Rohr will not be easily convinced to alter his' starting line up.'
3. Iwobi To the Wings
Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi played much of his game on Friday from the wings only intermittently drifting inwards.
For the Super Eagles star, his play making duties has to be felt and hopefully that comes to the fore on Tuesday as this job was mostly executed by Wilfred Ndidi - until Ahmed Misa came off the bench.
4. The Water Sprinkler
In the second half of the game, the onfield water sprinkler went to work much to the amazement of Wilfred Ndidi. It shows such things do not always happen in Africa alone.
