Barcelona's Nigeria captain hopes to feature against USWNT after suffering cramps in last game
Published: June 16, 2021Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala is hoping to get a run out when African champions Nigeria meet the United States Women's National Team in the finale of the 2021 WNT Summer Series on Thursday morning.
The Super Falcons skipper paid the price for her desire to be in the thick of action on the same day she linked up with the squad in Texas when she got injured in the second half of the clash vs Portugal, leading to her substitution by Obianujuwan Ikechukwu in the 70th minute.
A team source has informed this website that the issue with Oshoala is not as bad as first feared as she was only suffering from cramps after the long trip from Barcelona.
The former Liverpool and Arsenal star has been plagued by injury problems in recent months and was rated as doubtful for the Champions League showpiece vs Chelsea but managed to pass a fitness test before the final.
Oshoala underwent surgery on her left foot early April and was rushed back for Barcelona's visit to PSG.
In the event she is not able to play against the United States, Nigeria manager Randy Waldrum has other attack-minded players in the squad who are capable replacements including Houston Dash's Michelle Alozie, Levante's Francisca Ordega and Tikkyurilian Palloseura's Roosa Ariyo.
Nigeria are seeking their first win against the Americans in Thursday's clash having previously lost five matches.
