Brighton & Hove interested in former Glasgow Rangers striker who scored 28 goals last season
Published: June 22, 2021English Premier League club Brighton & Hove are interested in signing 2016 Olympics bronze medalist Umar Sadiq from Almeria in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Sadiq put himself in the shop window after a breakout season that saw him score 28 goals combined for Almeria and Partizan Belgrade.
Local newspaper based in Almeria, La Voz de Almeria, says Brighton & Hove and Bayer Leverkusen have his name on the list of transfer targets.
Everything now points to the fact that the Seagulls are looking to add a new attacker to their ranks before the window closes, not just any striker but a tall center forward, having been linked with possible moves for Nigerian trio Paul Onuachu (6'7"), Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (6'6") and Umar Sadiq (6'4").
Though Sadiq has a release clause of 60 million euros, Almeria are willing to negotiate with interested clubs who make an offer in the region of 30 million euros.
The 24-year-old played on loan at Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers in 2018 but struggled for game time, so much so that he was recalled from the Premiership club before the original agreement was due to expire.
Apart from Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton face competition from Sevilla for the signature of the ex-Nigeria U23 international.
The advantage the La Liga side have over their rivals is that the Nigerian wants to remain in Spain next season.
