New Real Madrid boss Ancelotti checking out Nigerian winger in pre-season
Published: July 07, 2021New Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is running the rule over Nigeria-eligible winger Marvin Akinlabi in pre-season training.
Los Blancos started pre-season preparations on Monday, July 5, with the players undergoing medicals at the Sanitas Valdebebas Medical Centre and the Sports Medicine Unit at the Hospital Universitario Sanitas La Moraleja. before taking to the pitch.
Many Real Madrid first team players have not reported for pre-season training due to international commitments this summer including the likes of Gareth Bale, David Alaba, Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard.
And to make up the numbers Ancelotti invited several Real Madrid youth team players to train with the first team including Akinlabi.
Training with the first team is not something new to the Spanish-Nigerian youngster having rubbed shoulders with the senior players at Real Madrid several times in 2020-2021.
Former coach Zinedine Zidane handed the 21-year-old his first team debut against Real Sociedad in September 2020 and he went on the feature in three more matches versus SD Huesca, Getafe and Granada.
Akinlabi's future at Real Madrid has to be sorted out before the close of the summer transfer window, with speculation linking him with a loan move to Italian top-flight club Torino.
