'We feel more confident' - Cape Verde's ex-Nottingham Forest star targets three points vs Nigeria
Published: September 04, 2021
Former Nottingham Forest winger Ryan Mendes has insisted that Cape Verde are determined to beat Nigeria when both countries face off in the second round of matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, September 7.
Pedro Leitão's team head into the showdown at the Adérito Sena Stadium trailing Nigeria by two points after they were forced to a 1-1 draw by Central African Republic in their opener in Douala.
The Blue Sharks started preparations for the match against the Super Eagles on Friday, same day their Group C rivals defeated Liberia 2-0.
One of the most dangerous players the Super Eagles players have to watch out for is Mendes who has turned out for the likes of Lille, Le Havre, Kayserispor and Nottingham Forest.

In quotes relayed by Cape Verdean newspaper, Expresso das Ilhas, Mendes said : "The group is excited and focused. We hope to play a good game and leave here with a victory for Cape Verde and for the people of São Vicente".
The Confederation of African Football has ruled that the game between Cape Verde and Nigeria will be played without spectators.
Mendes added : "Feeling the warmth, affection and respect of the people of São Vicente is gratifying and we feel more confident in doing everything to achieve a victory".
Barring a new development, Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr will name only 20 players in his matchday squad against Cape Verde on Tuesday.
