'They're giving him a label he doesn't deserve' - Agent defends Osimhen over red card
Published: September 09, 2021Italian intermediary Andrea D'Amico, who brokered the deal that took Victor Osimhen to Napoli last summer, has defended the Nigeria international over the red card he was shown in the opening round of fixtures in the Serie A.
Without consulting the video assistant referee, Aureliano independently took the decision to send off Osimhen after the number nine waved his arm and hit the opponent in the face.
Napoli's record acquisition was initially suspended for two matches but the Blues successfully appealed to the Sports Court of Appeal to reduce Osimhen's suspension to one game, so he will be available for selection this weekend against Juventus.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss via Calcio Napoli 1926, D'Amico said : "Glad that the disqualification of Victor Osimhen has been reduced.
"His absence deprived the match of an important player who can contribute to the show.
"His reactions are the result of sporting provocations or excessive competition, slap but certainly not slap. They're giving him a label he doesn't deserve."
Osimhen played a key role as Nigeria defeated Cape Verde in a 2022 World Cup qualifier two days ago, grabbing a crucial equaliser for the three-time African champions in the 30th minute.
