UYL : Man City's Nigeria-eligible duo score on debuts; Nusa starts for Club Brugge vs PSG
Published: September 15, 2021Three promising attack-minded teenagers of Nigerian descent made their UEFA Youth League debuts on Wednesday, September 15.
At the Academy Stadium in Manchester, Samuel Edozie and Tai Sodje, the nephew of former Super Eagles defenders Efe and Sam Sodje, helped Manchester City register a comprehensive 5-1 win over RB Leipzig in Group A.
On his debut in the UEFA Youth League, Sodje made it 3-1 on the hour mark with a right-footed shot into an empty net, before fellow debutante Edozie extended the lead after he was set up by Micah Hamilton in the 73rd minute.
City's other scorers were James McAtee and Oscar Bobb, while Raebiger netted a consolation for the German visitors.
Edozie, who made his first team debut for City in the Community Shield last month, went the full ninety and Sodje subbed out with eight minutes remaining.
In another Group A fixture at The Nest Roeselare (Roeselare), Club Brugge twice came from a goal down to force a 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
Summer signing from Stabaek in Norway, winger Antonio Nusa was in action for the entirety of the first half.
After Ibe Hautekiet had drawn Club Brugge level, he scored an own goal to restore PSG's one-goal lead before Vermant struck in the 87th minute to ensure honours were even at the end.
