Super Eagles captain Musa admits he was disappointed his 100 caps were gone, replies Enyeama
Published: October 07, 2021The Nigeria Football Federation and Ahmed Musa prematurely celebrated the current Super Eagles captain amassing one hundred caps when he started the last World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde, only for it to come to light that two of his caps against Togo and Algeria did not count as exclusively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com.
Vincent Enyema, Nigeria's joint all-time record appearance holder with 101, thinks Musa has the capacity to reach up to 130 caps before calling time on his international career, bearing it in mind that the former Leicester City striker is only 28 years old.
Musa admitted that he is relishing the prospect of becoming not just a centurion but Nigeria's record appearance maker in the near future.
Speaking at Wednesday's pre-match press conference monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, Musa said : "For me when I heard the news that the two games were not counted I felt so unhappy but there is nothing I can do, we still have more games to come and by the grace of God with long life and being injury free I know that I can make it.
"For my senior man Vincent Enyeama, when I played that 100th game he sent me a message congratulating me, I didn't have much to say to him than thank him for his support when I was playing under him.
"Now he is no more, I have always been calling him, asking him questions whenever we have a game. I felt very happy when he spoke to me and congratulated me.
"Whenever I make that history, it will be one of the best moment for me in my life because to hold the record of being the most capped player is not that easy, by the grace of God I will make it."
Musa's 98 caps are distributed as follows : AFCON qualifiers (31), international friendlies (30), World Cup qualifiers ( 15), FIFA World Cup (7), FIFA Confederations Cup (3) and African Nations Cup (12).
