'Back to his best' - Chukwueze praised after scoring against Barcelona
Published: November 28, 2021Samuel Chukwueze was praised by celebrated Spanish sports daily AS following his goal for Villarreal in their 3-1 loss to Barcelona in a La Liga match at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Saturday night.
It was his first goal in the Spanish top-flight since he found the net against the same opponents on April 25, 2021.
Following a goalless first half, the game exploded into life three minutes into the second stanza when Frenkie de Jong tapped in the rebound of a Memphis shot though the goal was initially ruled out for offside.
Chukwueze, on as a substitute in the 65th minute, equalised with a great finish with fourteen minutes remaining and it was thought Villarreal were back in the game but it was Barcelona who went on to win it.
Memphis' with an angled finish made it 2-1 with two minutes to go and Coutinho won and converted a penalty in stoppage time to get the job done.
AS reporter David Esteve is of the opinion that Chukwueze is back to his best after a difficult start to the season due to his injury problems.
He wrote on Chukwueze : "He revolutionized the game. He scored the tying goal with good definition and created a lot of danger. His best version returned."
Chukwueze has appeared in ten matches across all competitions for Villarreal since making his comeback against Osasuna on October 17.
