Southampton boss namechecks Super Eagles star as he reveals two good moments v Everton
Published: October 02, 2022
Ralph Hasenhüttl is under pressure as coach of Southampton after his side lost their third consecutive match in the Premier League, losing 2-1 to Everton on Saturday, despite taking the lead through their summer signing from Glasgow Rangers Joe Aribo.
The Nigeria international broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half when he arrowed a shot past Jordan Pickford but an in-form Toffees side claimed all three points thanks to goals from Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil in the space of three minutes.
Looking at the positives from the defeat to Everton, Hasenhüttl highlighted that they had two moments during the game that showed that they can hurt the visitors from Merseyside.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Austrian football tactician was quoted as saying by Daily Echo : "There were moments where we can kill them and we had two good moments, the first one was the goal where we immediately played deep, one good run, Che’s good pass and Joe’s good finish, this is how it should be.
"And yes, I mean, what happened then? Everybody saw from the kick-off a long ball, foul and then a cross from a free-kick from the side. We are not defending well in the box there. They get the equaliser and after it’s tough normally.”
Aribo is the second Southampton player to score more than once so far in the Premier League this season, after Scotland international Che Adams. who has played seven matches, one less than his Nigerian teammate.
In the provisional Premier League table, Southampton are sixteenth with seven points ahead of their visit to the Etihad Stadium to face reigning champions Manchester City.
