Paperwork delays debut of versatile Nigeria international for Levski Sofia
Published: October 03, 2022Abdullahi Shehu will not make his competitive debut for his new Bulgarian club Levski Sofia this evening when they take on Beroe in the First League.
The verstaile Nigeria national teamer joined Levski Sofia last month after running down his contract at Omonia Nicosia.
Although Shehu has not played competitively at club level since May 25, 2022 when he started the Cypriot Cup final vs Ethnikos, he arrived Levski in good physical condition.
Shehu played two friendly matches for Levski during the international break and impressed the coaching staff, operating as a central defender and defensive midfielder.
The head coach of Levski Stanimir Stoilov has selected a group of 17 players for the league match against Beroe but did not name the Nigerian in his traveling squad because he has not yet been issued a work permit.
Shehu was linked with a move to Chaves but negotiations with the Portuguese club broke down before he agreed terms with Levski Sofia.
He lists Kano Pillars, Qadsia, União da Madeira, Anorthosis, Bursaspor and Omonia Nicosia as his previous clubs.
