Arsenal team news : Arteta makes decision on 19yo Nigerian winger after training with squad
Published: October 20, 2022
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Dutch-born Nigerian winger Joel Ideho will not make his professional debut for Arsenal in Thursday evening's UEFA Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven.
The former Ajax Amsterdam wonderkid is now eligible to be registered on the Gunners List B roster as he has been on the books of the club for an uninterrupted period of two years and was born after January 1 ,2001.
Ideho was spotted training with the Arsenal first team stars during their final workout at London Colney on Wednesday afternoon.
Manager Mikel Arteta has selected his matchday squad to face the visitors from the Netherlands and there is no place for the 19-year-old.
Despite uncertainty over the availability of Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli, it was always going to be a tall order for Ideho to make the matchday squad considering that the likes of Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos are ahead of the Dutch-Nigerian in Arteta's pecking order.
Ideho has carved out a reputation for scoring spectacular goals and look no further than his delightful lob against FC Midtjylland in a UEFA Youth League match in August 2020 while wearing the colours of Ajax Amsterdam.
He repeated the feat in a pre-season friendly against National League South club St Albans City, netting the game winner by lobbing the goalkeeper from just inside his own half.
