'ADL wants to sell him at end of season' - Pundit reveals a 'strange rumour' about Osimhen
Published: November 04, 2022
Italian television presenter Gennaro Montuori has admitted that he's baffled by Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti snubbing Giovanni Simeone of late, and believes that the Argentina international is on the same level as Victor Osimhen.
Since Osimhen returned to action against Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League, Simeone has logged 93 minutes from a possible 540 in all competitions.
The Hellas Verona loanee impressed in the group stage of the Champions League, accounting for four of the twenty goals netted by Napoli and has netted twice in the Serie A.
A school of thought has suggested that Spalletti is being forced to play Osimhen over Simeone because Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is looking at selling the Nigerian next summer.
Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Newcastle United and Chelsea have been linked with possible moves for the former Lille and Wolfsburg attacker.
In quotes relayed by Napolipiu, Montuori stated : "It is not clear why a player like Giovanni Simeone is playing so little. There are many who think he is at least on the same level as Victor Osimhen .
"But there is a strange rumor about the Nigerian. It is said that he has to play at the behest of Aurelio De Laurentiis who wants to sell him at the end of the season to make a big capital gain.
"But I absolutely do not want to believe this rumor. I think that at this moment he is thinking more about the championship than about possible transfers."
Osimhen had a fine October, scoring five goals in three appearances in the Serie A for table topping Napoli.
