'One of the best players in the EPL season so far' - Everton expert hails Iwobi ahead of Leicester clash
Published: November 05, 2022
Everton expert and Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas has lauded Alex Iwobi ahead of the Toffees' Premier League clash against Leicester City, saying the Nigeria international has been one of the standout players in the 2022-2023 Premier League.
A tactical change by Lampard has brought out the best in Iwobi, with the Chelsea legend deploying him in a central midfield role for almost all the matches this season.
The former Arsenal star was shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Month for September 2022 on the back of his fine displays.
Iwobi has started every single game played by Everton in all competitions this season, going the distance in all of them with the exception of the trip to Newcastle United.
In fourteen matches so far this season, the Hale End Academy product has directly participated in seven goals (1 goal, 6 assists).
Assessing the Everton midfield, Thomas told Leicester City's official website : "He’s rebuilt the midfield, he’s moved Alex Iwobi into the middle and he’s been probably one of the best players in the Premier League season so far.
"They brought back Gueye from PSG and he’s had an immediate impact along with Onana, a youngster from Lille, who looks like a real player."
Alex Iwobi could come up against his international teammates Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi this evening at Goodison Park.
