Folarin Balogun scores match-winning goal for Stade de Reims against Simon's Nantes
Published: November 06, 2022
Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun was the match-winner for Stade de Reims as they defeated a Nantes side parading Super Eagles winger Moses Simon at the Stade Auguste-Delaune II on Sunday afternoon.
In what was his fourteenth appearance of the season, the Hale End Academy graduate secured the three points for Lorient when he converted a spot kick in the 83rd minute.
Referee Ruddy Buquet awarded a penalty after checking with the video assistant referee for a suspected foul in the area.
On the balance of play, Stade de Reims deserved the win as they shaded the possession and were more threatening in attack with ten shots on target compared to Nantes who had four.
Balogun made way for Dion Lopy with two minutes left to play while Simon was in action for the entire duration of the game.
With his strike against Nantes, Balogun is up to eight goals, putting him fifth in the scorer's chart, behind PSG duo Kylian Mbappe and Nyemar, Lille's Jonathan David and Lorient's Terem Moffi.
The win against Nantes has pushed Stade de Reims to eleventh in the table with sixteen points ahead of their trip to Montpellier next weekend.
