English Premier League scouts were in attendance to watch the Eredivisie clash between champions Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam this past weekend.
Ajax lost 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven in the heavyweight clash of Dutch club football with Super Eagles star Calvin Bassey playing the entire duration of the game for Ajax while Noni Madueke was an unused substitute for PSV.
According to 90min, scouts from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, Leeds, Leicester City, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers were present for the encounter.
Chelsea coach Graham Potter while he was at the helm of affairs at Brighton And Hove Albion wanted to bring the 22-year-old to the Amex but failed in his pursuit.
Arsenal and Manchester United were sensationally linked with a move for the Leicester City academy product in the summer but nothing came out of it.
Despite being subjected to harsh criticisms from club legends, Bassey has been an ever-present starter for Ajax Amsterdam, making sixteen consecutive starts in all competitions.
Bassey became the most expensive Nigerian defender in history, overtaking the legendary Super Eagles central defender Taribo West following his move to Ajax and he's tied to the Amsterdam club until June 30, 2027.
