Foster insists Rangers have not adequately replaced Super Eagles duo
Published: November 10, 2022
Former Glasgow Rangers star Richard Foster is of the belief that Super Eagles stars Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey have not been adequately replaced at the Ibrox Stadium outfit.
The Light Blues sold both stars for a combined €30 million in the summer of 2022, having gotten both of them on a free.
Aribo joined Southampton in the Premier League while Calvin Bassey moved to Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam.
Rangers however got replacements for Aribo and Bassey, with Ben Davies joining from Liverpool on a permanent deal while Malik Tillman came from Bayern Munich on a season-long loan.
Despite the two incomings, Foster opined that Rangers have not gotten the perfect replacement for Calvin Bassey or Aribo, with the latter's absence particularly being felt by Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side.
"There have been no replacements for Joe Aribo or Calvin Bassey," Foster wrote in his BBC column.
"Bassey came on to a game in the Europa League run, but Aribo is the huge miss. He's the one who would find a pass, a cross, create a bit of magic when Rangers needed it.
"Malik Tillman has come in but there are moments when he's just walking about the pitch. That's not acceptable. I'm not blaming it all on him, of course, he's just a young kid.
"But I don't see how the last window will offer encouragement for the next one, despite the odd exception."
Bassey and Aribo helped Rangers win the Scottish Professional Football League during the 2020/2021 season, the Scottish Cup at the end of last campaign and a second place finish in the UEFA Europa League.
