The English Football Association announced the Three Lions roster for the 2022 World Cup on Thursday afternoon and only one player of Nigerian descent will be on the plane to Qatar.
Two Chelsea academy products in Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori have been omitted from the traveling squad.
The AS Roma striker and AC Milan central defender were heavily courted by former Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick before playing cap-tying games for England.
Abraham and Tomori have earned fourteen England caps between them, most recently against Italy in the UEFA Nations League.
The striker has not really been on form this season, scoring four goals in nineteen all-competition appearances, while Tomori has been overlooked as he is behind the likes of Harry Maguire, John Stones, Conor Coady and Ben White in Southgate's pecking order of central defenders.
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka, who was approached to switch his nationality from England to Nigeria before playing competitively for the Three Lions, will be heading to Qatar. for the tournament which begins on Sunday, November 20.
Saka was influential for England in their last major tournament, 2020 European Championship, helping them reach the final where they lost to Italy on penalties.
England are in Group B and will face Iran on Monday 21 November, United States on Friday 25 November and Wales in their final group game on Tuesday 29 November.
