Agent reveals it's inevitable Nigeria-eligible Tottenham loanee will end up with Italy national team
Published: November 10, 2022
Stefano Antonelli, who handles the affairs of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Destiny Udogie, has suggested that the international future of the exciting left-back lies with the Italian national team, and not Nigeria.
Udogie is an influential player for Italy U21s and has been tipped for a senior call up in the not too distant future after excelling for the youth teams.
Although the Nigeria Football Federation are monitoring the progress of the Verona native, they have a tough task on their hands to persuade him to switch his nationality as Italy manager Roberto Mancini is known to be keeping tabs on the 2022 Golden Boy nominee regarding a potential call up.
The door remains open for Udogie to represent the three-time African champions as he has yet to play a competitive game for his country of birth.
The 19-year-old signed a multi-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window and was immediately loaned to Udinese, where he started the season, to continue his development.
In quotes relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, Antonelli said to Si Gonfia la Rete : "I spoke to Udogie of Tottenham, but he keeps telling me that he is focused on Udinese.
"Of course, he keeps track of Tottenham, who, by the way, are such an organised club that they have a person who takes care of Destiny.
“It’s inevitable that Udogie will end up with the Italian national team, but Roberto Mancini will decide how and when.”
Udogie has missed the last two games played by Udinese in the Serie A due to a muscle injury.
