Two French-born Chelsea players named in Senegal's 2022 World Cup squad
Published: November 11, 2022
The Senegalese Football Federation has announced the Lions of Teranga roster for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with two French-born Chelsea players making the cut as expected.
Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and central defender Kalidou Koulibaly are part of the 26-man squad heading to Qatar.
Koulibaly inked a four-year deal with The Blues in the summer transfer window, ending an eight-year association with Napoli in the process.
When in good physical shape, the experienced center back has been a regular starter for Chelsea, making twelve starts in all competitions so far this season.
The 31-year-old is expected to captain Senegal at the World Cup just as he did during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although Mendy has lost his spot in Chelsea's starting lineup, he is the undisputed first choice goalkeeper for Senegal.
The two Chelsea players have a combined 89 caps for the Senegalese national team.
Senegal will face Netherlands, Qatar and Ecuador in Group A of the 2022 World Cup.
