Manchester United's Anglo-Nigerian striker misses out on Premier League 2 POTM
Published: November 11, 2022Nottingham Forest's youngster Ateef Konate has beaten Shola Shoretire to the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for October 2022.
The midfielder who is of Malian descent won the award ahead of Shola Shoretire (Manchester United), Omari Hutchinson (Chelsea), Harry Leonard (Blackburn Rovers), Oliver O'Neill (Fulham), Charlie Whitaker (Everton) and Joe White (Newcastle United).
Shoretire earned his nomination after scoring four goals and assisting one in five appearances in the Premier League 2 last month.
The Nigeria-eligible striker scored United's sole goal in the humiliating 6-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers and he went on to provide an assist in the 3-3 draw with Brighton And Hove Albion.
Shoretire netted an injury time brace in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Chelsea before scoring in the 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
His scintillating performances have been rewarded with several call ups to train with the first team by Erik ten Hag.
However, the Dutchman has included Shoretire in the match day squad on three occasions, with him playing the role of an unused substitute.
The 18-year-old also missed out on Manchester United's Goal of the Month for October, an award won by Brazilian winger Antony.
