Celtic sweating on fitness of Super Eagles-eligible CB ahead of trip to Down Under
Published: November 12, 2022
Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are sweating on the fitness of Super Eagles-eligible central defender Moritz Jenz before their trip to Down Under, where they will take part in the inaugural Sydney Super Cup.
The Hoops will face Sydney FC at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Thursday, November 17, before a mouthwatering clash against Alex Iwobi's Everton at Accor Stadium three days later.
Jenz is set to undergo a medical examination before the trip to Australia, having suffered an injury during the first half of Celtic's come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Ross County on Saturday.
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was forced into a like-for-like change seven minutes before halftime when the Lorient loanee was replaced by Carl Starfelt after coming off worse in an aerial duel with a Ross County player.
Jenz made a return to Celtic's starting lineup after he was a non-playing substitute in the penultimate round of matches in the Premiership against Motherwell, taking his total appearances since his arrival at Parkhead to nineteen.
Celtic signed off for the World Cup with a nine-point lead at the summit of the Scottish Premiership table after goals from David Turnbull and Sead Haksabanovic helped them secure an eighth straight win in the division.
Their first competitive game after the tournament in Qatar is a trip to Aberdeen on December 17, 2022.
