FA Youth Cup : Nwaneri on target as Arsenal beat Millwall 6-0
Published: December 20, 2022
Two days after featuring for the first team against Juventus at the Emirates Stadium, Ethan Nwaneri made his FA Youth Cup debut for the Gunners as they thrashed Millwall 6-0 at Boreham Wood's Meadow Park Stadium on Monday night.
The attacking midfielder of Nigerian descent went the full ninety for Arsenal, while first year scholar goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo was a non-playing substitute.
Exciting winger Chris Ojeme and defender Adedapo Olugbodi started from the off for Millwall, bringing the number of Anglo-Nigerian players in action to three.
Nwaneri came close to breaking the deadlock in the opening minute of the contest but goalkeeper George Evans did well to deny him and six minutes later Olugbodi was booked for bringing down Myles Lewis-Skelly on the halfway line.
The floodgates were opened in the 13th minute by Jimi Gower and Nwaneri doubled the advantage with a powerful strike in the 26th minute, before Michal Rosiak made it 3-0 on the half hour mark to make the second half a mere formality.
Amario Cozier-Duberry scored Arsenal's fourth goal in the 52nd minute and Nwaneri was close to getting his second of the game just past the hour mark but fired over.
Benjamin added gloss to the scoreline with a brace in the last fifteen minutes,
Nwaneri has now scored for Arsenal teams in the U18 Premier League, U18 Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup while still a schoolboy.
