Carabao Cup : 5 Super Eagles stars discover quarterfinal opponents, Aneke's Charlton to face Man Utd
Published: December 23, 2022The draw for the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup has been made, with eight players of Nigerian descent including five Super Eagles players discovering their opponents.
Former Gunner Chuks Aneke and Charlton Athletic were handed a tough draw with a trip to Shola Shoretire's Manchester United.
The Addicks booked their place in the last eight of the competition after beating Brighton & Hove at The Valley on Wednesday night, and Aneke was in action for five minutes.
Crystal Palace Academy product Mandela Egbo is also on the books of Charlton Athletic but is currently sidelined through injury.
Nigeria national teamer Joe Aribo and Samuel Edozie, who were in the squad against Lincoln City, will be hoping to get minutes when Southampton host favorites Manchester City at St. Mary's Stadium.
Aribo has appeared in two matches in this season's Carabao Cup, while City old boy Edozie has been used twice too.
Nottingham Forest's reward for thrashing Blackburn Rovers is a meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers at The City Ground.
Super Eagles strikers Emmanuel Dennis and Taiwo Awoniyi have been called up for all the matches played by the Reds in this season's Carabao Cup and the latter found the net in the big win versus Blackburn Rovers.
An away trip to St. James' Park awaits Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi in the next round after Leicester City were paired with Newcastle United.
Iheanacho was in the Manchester City squad that beat Liverpool on penalties to win the Carabao Cup in February 2016.
The Carabao Cup fixtures will take place in the week commencing January 9, 2023.
