'A really good young player' - Vieira happy ex-Golden Eaglets invitee is with Crystal Palace
Published: December 26, 2022
Speaking at his pre-match press conference before the London derby against Fulham, Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira says he is delighted that former Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei is at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace saw off competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur to land the signature of Ebiowei from Derby County in the summer transfer window.
He put himself in the shop window after a breakout campaign with The Rams and finished the 2021-2022 season strongly with three goal involvements in his last three games in the Championship.
Vieira resisted the temptation to send Ebiowei out on loan as he felt the winger's development is best served at the Eagles.
The former Arsenal captain underlined that the Anglo-Nigerian is learning the trade from exciting wingers Wilfried Zaha and Eberechi Eze.
"Malcolm is a really good young player. I’m happy he is with us. He is training every day close to Wilf [Zaha], [Ebere] Eze – top professional players – and he is learning a lot from them on and off the field," Vieira was quoted as saying by Crystal Palace's official website.
"He is in a good place at a really good football club where we put a structure around him to help him grow as a player and as a man as well."
There are a couple of Football League clubs sniffing around Ebiowei ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
