Confirmed team news : Brentford's Super Eagles midfielder will not play v West Ham
Published: December 30, 2022
Manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that he will not be able to call upon Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka for the Premier League meeting with West Ham United at the London Stadium on Friday night.
Onyeka was not utilized in Brentford's mid-season friendlies with Bordeaux, Celta Vigo and Wolfsburg this month as part of their preparations for the resumption of the Premier League.
It became clear that all was not well with the defensive midfielder after he was excluded from the matchday squad against Tottenham Hotspur on Boxing Day.
Manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that the Nigerian will not make it for the match against the Hammers because he is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
Providing a squad update, the Danish football tactician said at his pre-match press conference : "Shandon [Baptiste] is still out with a groin injury and Frank [Onyeka] won’t play - he’s got a hamstring injury."
Apart from Onyeka, Aaron Hickey, Thomas Strakosha (both ankle), Kristoffer Ajer (hamstring) and Shandon Baptiste (groin) will also sit out tonight's London derby.
Onyeka was called up for every single game played by the Bees prior to the World Cup break, seventeen in all competitions, and took to the pitch on fourteen occasions.
