FA Youth Cup : Exciting striker of Nigerian descent delivers for Chelsea
Published: January 07, 2023Chelsea are through to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup after a 3-1 win over Bradford City at Kingsmeadow on Saturday afternoon.
In a 4-2-3-1 formation, exciting England youth international of Nigerian descent Tudor Mendel-Idowu led the line and there was a debut in the competition for fullback Somto Boniface.
Young professional Louis Flower was introduced off the bench before the start of the second half.
After Leo Castledine opened the scoring for the Blues, Mendel-Idowu doubled the advantage as he rounded the goalkeeper and slotted into an empty net in the 21st minute.
Just past the half hour mark, Isaac Robinson reduced the deficit when he converted a free kick to give Bradford City hope.
Zain Silcott Duberry, assisted by Flower in the 69th minute, scored Chelsea's third goal to extinguish any hopes of a comeback by the visitors.
Mendel-Idowu has totaled four goals this season, scoring in three different competitions namely the U18 Premier League, Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup.
Chelsea will face Cambridge United in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
