Chelsea give brand new signing Mudryk jersey number previously worn by Nigerian star
Published: January 15, 2023Chelsea have pulled off a transfer coup by signing Ukraine international Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, beating London rivals Arsenal to his signature.
The Blues announced on Sunday that Mudryk, who can operate as a winger and striker, has finalized his move to Chelsea after agreeing personal terms with the club.
The 22-year-old signed a contract valid until the end of the 2030-2031 season after passing a medical examination.
According to Italian transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano, Mudryk and Shakhtar Donetsk sport director Darijo Srna are in attendance at Stamford Bridge for the ongoing game between Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
Romano added that Mudryk has been allocated the number 15 shirt for the remainder of the season.
Chelsea's number 15 shirt was previously worn with pride by Super Eagles legend Victor Moses for three consecutive seasons,
2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Moses made 84 appearances wearing Chelsea's number 15 shirt, comprising 64 in the Premier League, seven in the FA Cup, five in the Carabao Cup, two in the Community Shield and six in European competitions.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner was on the books of Chelsea for nine years before a permanent transfer to Spartak Moscow in July 2021.
Kurt Zouma, Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba also played with the number 15 during their time at Chelsea.
